A personal approach to light and form

I’m Sven Jacobs, designer and founder of Jacobs Elements. My work explores how wood, geometry and light can come together to create new forms and meanings.

To me, lighting is more than a functional object. It is a form of sculptural design that shapes the way we experience a space.

With this in mind, I create lighting objects that do more than illuminate. They intrigue, invite curiosity and draw the eye in unexpected ways.

I find inspiration in a wide range of things, from words and names to recognisable forms and unexpected ideas. I translate these into distinctive designs in which material, form and light reinforce one another.

Designs that evolve with perspective

My designs reveal different qualities depending on the angle from which they are viewed. A form may be recognisable from one viewpoint, yet appear as an abstract arrangement of lines from another.

This interplay keeps each design in motion. Light, perspective and surroundings influence how the object is perceived, allowing it to reveal a different character as the viewer moves around it.

Each design is carefully constructed by hand and finished with close attention to detail. I look for the right balance between form, construction and the way light interacts with the space around it.

From idea to creation

Alongside my own collections, I develop bespoke designs. A name, a personal story or a distinctive idea can become the starting point for a new creation.

From the first sketch to the final realisation, I remain closely involved throughout the design process.

Each project is given the space to evolve into a distinctive object with its own character and a recognisable signature.

Recognition for an original design

In 2022, my first-ever design, Zero, from the Initials collection, received recognition at the German Design Award. This milestone marked an important moment in my journey as a designer and encouraged me to continue exploring the boundaries between craftsmanship, sculptural design and lighting.
